A month of Crete webcam movies from Kissamos - help

Our live webcam in Kissamos, Crete, captures an image every 60 seconds. At the end of each day, we collate those images into a time-lapse movie. Each live image is 640 x 480 pixels and around 75 Kbytes in size. On long summer days, nearly 1,000 images are captured between dawn and dusk. It's really not practical or useful to create a 75 Mbyte movie - it would simply take too long to download!

Therefore we create two compressed versions of each day's movie:

• Full movies are 320 x 240 pixels, and run at at 25 frames per second. Movies of 12-hour days, play in 30 seconds. They are 2 - 5 Mbytes in size.

• Sample movies are 160 x 120 pixels, and run at at 50 frames per second. Movies of 12-hour days, play in 15 seconds. They are 400 - 700 Kbytes in size.

• Select which version best suits your internet line speed, by clicking the "Full" or "Sample" buttons.

• Play a particular movie, by clicking on a thumbnail. The selected movie will download, and then automatically be played by your PC's default movie player.

• If a movie is not available for a particular day, you will see a grey image instead.

Tips
• If movies are not automatically played on your PC, you will probably need to associate the movie files (.wmv) with your default player. See Tools -> Options in most browsers.

• To compress the movies to a reasonable size for download, they are created with a high frame rate. We find that they are more enjoyable if played at 33 - 50% of normal speed. If you want to view the movies at a slower speed, your player should have an option to do this.
