Using Google Earth™

Here are some helpful hints for using our website with Google Earth™.

Copyright notice
We have taken considerable time and effort to assemble our data and software for use with our website and Google Earth. This data is for personal use only. All such data and intellectual property is copyright © Crete Perfect Home. Any unauthorised use or copying or modifying of such data or intellectual property for commercial purposes is unlawful and will be prosecuted.

1. Due to the detailed graphics required, you will need a broadband/ADSL internet connection for Google Earth to work correctly.

2. You can download the Google Earth software FREE from here. Once downloaded, click 'Run' to install and follow the installation instructions. Note that we are using the latest Google Earth technology, which requires Google Earth version 4.2 or later. If you already have Google Earth, select Help -> Check for Updates Online for the latest version.

3. If you click the Google Earth button on our website property pages, a small (harmless) file will download to your PC then automatically run the Google Earth software. You should then see an image of north west Crete from 45kms altitude, together with a green circle indicating the property's location. To the left of the image, the property reference should be visible under the 'Temporary Places' folder.

4. You can view brief property details by clicking on the property's reference in the 'Temporary Places' folder.

5. You can zoom in 4x on the Google Earth map by right-clicking twice, or zoom out 4x by left-clicking twice.

6. The green circle is 2kms radius and shows the area of the property's location. Note that the actual property location is deliberately not in the centre of the circle!

7. For an automated flying tour around the property's area, highlight the property by clicking on it in the 'Temporary Places' folder, and then click the 'Play Tour' button below. You can pause/stop the tour at any time by pressing the 'Pause Tour' or 'Stop Tour' buttons.Your tour settings are critical for a smooth ride, and you can adjust them to suit your PC and personal preferences by selecting Tools -> Options -> Touring. We find the following settings give good results:

Note that to make your latest settings work, you should click 'Apply Settings' then 'Ok', then stop/restart the current Tour.

8. Other settings. Most users want to see the terrain, so ensure it is checked in the 'Layers' folder at bottom left. To avoid screen clutter, we usually turn off all the other Layers.

9. To load our list of towns, villages and hamlets of north west Crete into Google Earth, click here. Please note that we are still working on this data, and it will take some time to complete. If you want to obtain updates periodically, just click the same link from time to time.

Finally, we hope that using Google Earth from our website will help you become more familiar with our unspoiled area of north west Crete, and that you can more easily visualise living in your perfect home in Crete!
